We were together when the flick was shot and we attended a showing opening night and later rented the VHS and studied it with as fine a toothed comb as you can with VHS.

Why does that movie seem older than 92'?

I was just watching The Tenant from 78' and it seemed more modern.

One notable thing about it - apart from having me - was it was shot in Toronto - and it used Toronto as Toronto.

Hollywood has shot a zillion films where Toronto was used as somewhere else. Toronto posed as Boston in Good Will Hunting and Baltimore in Hairspray and Detroit in Robocop. NYC in American Psycho. Chicago in Chicago. It's a long list.

But TOTE used Toronto as Toronto - which was a big deal at the time. The CN Tower was in it. There was a joke about hockey being on every channel. Toronto was Toronto.

Some people were really proud. I mean, it showed Toronto as a place crawling with powerful, dangerous Asian gangs dealing drugs and having their way with all kinds of things. It showed Toronto as a place with completely inept cops who drop dead if you give them a good kick.

But yay.
