Saw a few odds and end this week:

It's Complicated - It's okay. It passes some time. It has some flaws and some dopiness but it has Meryl Streep whom I love. 5.1 out of 10.

The Lovely Bones - No. It is so full of flaws and dopiness. Apparently the book is supposed to be good but this adaptation did not work for me. 4 out of 10.

Sleepers (1996) - A good and interesting tale of patient retribution. 7 out of 10.

Supplementary topic - Lynn Redgrave died Sunday Night. She was an Oscar multi-nominee who was 67. RIP

I love any movie where Kevin Bacon is raping someone.

Alice in Wonderland 3-D - I started to doze off. Not looking forward to the mad rush to make everything in 3-D now, whether it is relevant or not. (I'm talking to YOU, Clash of the Titans!! ::thumbsdown:) How much longer til Step Up 3-D comes out!??!?!?!

Brothers - Loved it. Complex and dismal. And Natalie Portman WILL be the Meryl Streep of this generation.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon - I can get down with the 11-year old girls with the best of them. Everyone is pouty and everyone wants to eat you. Watching these movies on drugs definitely helps the experience as well.

Bad Lietenant: Port of Call New Orleans - So wonderfully horrid, that it inspired the return of my shitty movie blogs. Stay tuned.

Only watched a documentary by BBC's Louis Theroux - America's Medicated Kids. The guy spends some time with a bunch of families who have kids with different mental illnesses/chemical imbalances. Most of the kids are fairly heavy cases, although one wonders how the ADHD cases were dealt with before God came up with modern meds. (The answer is probably a solid ass-kicking.)

I love Theroux's stuff. He doesn't claim to be impartial - he observes closely and reacts personally to what he sees. And he may well be a more faggotity straight man than I, which is reassuring to see.

He did one about pathological gambling as well, which is a must-see.

Sherlock Holmes Rather boring. No action. No suspense. I'm one that has to finish a movie once I have started it. I was hoping the end would come sooner. And you can't understand Robert Downey Jr half the time because of his terrible fake accent.

Oh, I should've mentioned The Pacific again... Amby was saying he was bored with the HBO series cause it moved too slow. Well, Part 7 was action-packed and bloody as hell. Lots of explosions and burning bodies and close-ups of bloody flesh. Brutal episode. Good shit.

I am actually liking The Pacific more and more as I watch it. I think i am a couple episodes behind but it has gotten better as they developed each character.

Brothers
Unlike Bread I really didn't like this movie. I love Natalie Portman (even though she is a stupid hippy) but that is about all I liked about it. I can't buy Jake Gyllenhal as a badass and I can't buy Toby Mcquire as a hard ass marine even more. I think Toby Mcquire might be one of the worst actors around and his voice annoys me becuase he sounds like a 12 year old. The story was pretty lame...nothing really happened didn't do anything for me.

UP
Really cute and entertaining. I figured I had to see it as it was supposed to be the best of the animated movies that came out last year. I liked it a lot....other than the fact that I wanted to punch the little fat kid int he face a couple times for being a moron. I loved the "talking" dogs part of the movie becuase it really is how i envision them sounding and thinking. I would recommend this if you get into those pixar and animated movies.

The Stoning of Soraya M
This movie was absolutely great. I had read some reviews that said it was pretty good and threw it on my netflix. I was pleasently surprised. It was a true story and you know what happens but it doesn't change the fact that it was so well done. A woman in Iran is stoned to death for a crime she did not commit. The crime was adultry and evidently is punishable by death in Islamic law. Her scumbag husband is the one that actually frames her and it is pretty remarkable to watch.

The Men Who Stare at goats
This movie was alright. If anything else it was entertaining. I George Clooney is someone that i could watch in just about everything. I saw Up In the Air recently and loved that...i might be liking this movie a little more just becuase of his performance in that. The cast in this movie was all-star and they could have done a little more with some of the secondary characters but they never really developed them. Not sure why.....

I've been trying to watch some older movies that I never got around to seeing and my choices have been failing miserably. Dead Presidents was really boring. I thought the whole premise of the movie was bank robberies but that was not the case. I like Lorenz Tate but this movie wasn't good. Mulholland Drive was absolutely the worst movie I have ever seen. And I'm not just saying that, I mean it. The movie made no sense whatsoever. I looked on IMDB for some sort of explanation and it's one of those Hollywood movies that if you didn't like it then you obviously didn't "get it" and it was just too brilliant for you.

Every David Lynch movie is abstract and interpretive. Sort of like a Picasso. If you didn't like Mulholland Drive, don't watch his other movies. They're really not my thing either though. It's more for the artsy snobs out there.

I enjoy watching movies and there seems to be a few people on here with what seems to be good taste. Would you guys list some of your favorites that I may have missed or never saw? I'd like to add them to my Netflix and give them a shot. I'll start off with some movies I like that may have flown under the radar.

Frailty Suspenseful with an excellent twist. Matthew McConaughey and Bill Paxton are usually very off-putting but they actually put in some good performances.

Poolhall Junkies Anything with Chazz Palminteri and Rick Schroder is awesome.

Saved! You may be turned off by hearing that Macaulay Culken and Mandy Moore are in this but they do an excellent job. I think this movie is hilarious.

RocknRolla One of Guy Ritchie's best.

The Wackness and You Kill Me Ben Kingsley. Enough said.

RocknRolla did nothing for me. Strange. I guess I kept hoping for it to turn into Snatch, and it never did.

I love Dead Presidents. Come on guy. Clion is the best. Mulholland Dr. is entertaining enough, although it just hurts my head everytime I try to figure it out.

My taste in movies is so all over the place. For example, I just really enjoyed watching Brothers, yet absolutely CAN'T WAIT for Step Up 3D to come out!!!

MF I'll meet you halfway somewhere in the Midwest and we will do this!
