Due to the way things are going lately and because even if some of us will never have the discipline or focus to actually become a pro there are certain things we can familiarize ourselves with. I realize having only a recreational understanding is not remotely close to having a real understanding but humor me.

I'm trying to learn the principles of steam plays. I did some Google searches and all I come up with is a bunch of locomotive sites. I try searching it other ways and still only got one listing for something gambling related and that was from a Sportsbook site and I don't ever trust trying to learn from the places your trying to beat.

A little guidence would be appreciated. Should I be searching for something other than steam (obviously there are plenty of jkes that can be put in play at this point) or a better way to refine my seaches? How about an Introductory To Gambling 101 type site for us simpletons? It doesn't have to be a picture guide although that would be easier for some of us to grasp?

Wal, I don't think there are any sites specifically dedicated to what you are looking for.

The Think Tank at SBR is a good place to find information, use the search function and post questions, you will get responses if you are sincere, which I believe you are.

Plommer I read my post and even asked myself about the level of my sincerity. It seems that anymore even the most sincere request are sarcastic laiden. You are right though this was a sincere request and I appreciate the information. Gonna be tough in the Tanker though. I have always been polite to them and them me but they don't like to dumb it down much.

Monkey, regarding steam.

Is it possible to have Pinny on iPhone open and play some steam in Vegas for NCAA Hoops 2nd halves, for example?

Does Caesars Palace or Bally's allow cell phone use in sportsbooks? What about just having it out and looking at screen and not talking?

Or do they move the numbers quick enough where it's not possible?

Yes.
Yes.
That's fine.
Depends. If the offshore movement doesn't originate from someone with a presence here, it's not that fast. Otherwise, it might move before or seconds afterward.

Just remember transmitting wagering information inside the book is illegal.

You could be arrested. I'm not aware of any cases where it has been done before, however.

I mostly only bet steam on 2H. Full game wagers I generally model.

You can try doing it in the book and being discreet about it, or you can step 3 feet outside of the book and not worry about it.

Durito, Plommer and MonkeyFocker, thanks for the info. I will look into it.

Just one more quick question. Obviously the more books the better but in your experience what is the minimum number of books to give you a decided edge? Obviously 2 would be the absolute minimum but not really a practical minimum.

Chasing pinny steam on NCAAB 2H's is a good way to light money on fire.

You'd actually only need 1. However, you'd most likely have your limits cut or some other countermeasure, and then you'd need at least another 1.
