Miami Marlins offering Pujols 225 million

They seem to be very serious about a title, a new ball park, Ozzie, Reyes, and maybe Pujols.

With a competitive average annual value (say $25 million), that’s $225 million, minimum, and that’s more than what the St. Louis Cardinals are believed to have offered in the spring. Is it possible that two weeks into November Pujols could already have what will be his best offer?"

I think this is pretty exciting for Miami, Sun Life Stadium always was an awful place to watch a game and they have been talking to the cuban Yoenis Cespedes, Mark Buehrle, Reyes as well. I have always loved this team, lots of young guys who give it their all every night, they just havent had the payroll and big names. Add Buehrle with Josh Johnson and with Nolasco, Volstad and Sanchez and that rotation will be alot stronger, Pujols is only 31 and still has some good years left in him.

Miami is a shitty sports town. This will not end well. When have these types of contracts ever worked out? They almost always get dumped on another team while having to eat a portion. Nobody even knows how old Pujols is. He could rapidly decline. Funny thing is, this organization doesn't even need to do this. They have a great track record with home grown talent. They just need to be able to resign those guys they can bring up.
 
Maybe it will bring back the days when Miami was a great sports town during the dolphin era , there is no way any town could be worse for sports than washington dc. Miami has the The Ericsson Open, Miami college football, (the heat for whatever thats worth this year) mls would do really well there, the fusion was just a mess. People support teams when they win and the panthers and the dolphins havent done that in awhile.

Its tough when you have so many other things to do like the beach to get sports fans but this stadium is located in the heart of little havana , I used go every spring training to florida with my dad when I was younger and I love baseball in florida but sitting in sun life stadium watching the marlins in 110 degree weather was not a pleasant experience. The new stadium has a retractable roof.

Marlins won two WS titles with lowest payroll in baseball. They know this is not the way to win titles. Didn't work well for the Rangers with A-rod, Dodgers with Manny, Boston with Crawford, Yankees with A-rod, Phillies with Lee etc.... Gotta consider the opportunity costs and they're gonna lose out on a lot of key pieces needed for a title.

They're probably just trying to sell season tickets and get corporate sponsors.

Residents still pay federal incoome taxes. The beauty of having states organized in a union is that, aside from some stuff reserved for the federal govt in the Constitution, states can do what they want (taxes, booze laws, pot laws, organize local govt, property laws). Some states choose not to impose income taxes. Most of these states offer less public services in some way (education and roads in the case of fl) and most make some of it up in the form of greater property tax. I dislike taxes because of what I view of as wasteful spending.
 
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that that Marlins' offer to Albert Pujols was "well, well below" $200 million.
It was a nine-year proposal, but the average annual salary was not substantial enough for Pujols and his representatives to take it seriously. The Cardinals still look to be the front-runner for the 31-year-old slugger and will remain on top until another team steps forward. Miami's interest was never for real.
