online ads are a fraud with google/fb and other networks complicit with them, big brands know xx% is for fraud clicks/views and they already price it in their budgets, it's the little and medium ad buyer guys that get screwed, goog/fb will never truly clean it though

what's awesome about the methbot guys is their scale, article mentions they use 570,000 ips, leasing a /24 subnet that have 254 usable ips cost around $100/month for clean ips and about half of that for dirty ones, they had to use about 2,227 /24 nets at a cost $22000/m, taking bulk discount, dirtier ips or longer leases would reduce their investment but still pretty badass, ballsy setup

and routing all the $$ to seychelles, seychelles is one of the last truly anonymous corp registrations jurisdiction left

also it could be a bigger or smaller operation, these content marketing blog posts from web sec companies usually are full of guesses based on only a few facts, i don't trust this source, but it got a hell of a exposure all over
