Maury Chaykin dies at age 61

Chaykins agent Paul Hemrend said the actor died at Toronto General Hospital surrounded by family but would not elaborate on the cause of death.

That's a shame. He is one of those character actors who turns up in a lot of places. I just did a quick check of his credits and I have seen over 20 movies he has been in - plus a bunch of TV.

I remember him best for Dances With Wolves and Whale Music.

I remember him best from "Owning Mahowny" where he played the part of bookie Frank Perlin .

He must have had cancer, 'cause he was a heavyweight and ended up looking like this recently:

He was born in New York to an American father and Canadian mother so he was eligible to work gigs in both countries.

I know he lived most of his life in Canada.
