Once the final 8 draw came out, I bet a few more on it. I really saw them in the final and thought I could always scalp them out in the end.

I think he was just pissed-off about his own team failing to seal the deal TBH.
Although he does come from an era where "Germans" = the enemy/evil, I wouldn't infer that from it.
