Yes, it's not the end of the year, but some friends of mine stared this CD Party about 5 or 6 years ago. Here's how it works:

They figure out how many people are coming to the party
This year there will be 14 (plus spouses)
I have to make 14 mixes (you chose your favorite songs from throughout the year)
Covers and song titles are a must
I personally try to think of a theme, but this year the theme isn't coming to me
Everyone brings a 6 pack of their favorite beer, which goes in the coolers, and you drink random beers all night
People's mixes play throughout the night
You go home with 14 mixes of new music

Went there, they said they were having unexpected technical difficulties...

I think I've been there before, not the same thing as having a party and getting a bunch of mixes from people you know. It's a pretty cool idea I think. Plus the food spread is usually pretty amazing as well.

Maybe I'll make a video this year. It will be super gay, don't worry.

I think it sounds like a pretty cool idea. I'm a little confused though. Do you personally make 14 unique mixes, or does everybody make their own mix and then copy it 14 times? If it's the former, OK. If it's the latter, then that sounds like a huge PIA.
 
Jello, everyone makes one mix, then burns it 14 times. Everyone who comes to the party gets one from everyone else (14 total). Most of these people are designers and lots of the cd cases and what not are pretty interesting. I guess I am the kind of guy that gets into the details as well, mPs and filesharing are cool, but I get into the whole packaging of music. It's lost these days.

I also like hearing what everyone listened to all year. There's usually 3-5 standout discs and the rest collect dust but it's always a fun time, and for the price of a 6-pack it's a no-brainer.

Nice "fuck" idea but I already have the songs chosen.

1 out of 22 had the word fuck in the title.

I must be slipping.
 
My best friend makes a mixed CD at the end of every year and mails it to all his friends usually some time in January. He's been doing this for about 5 years now, but throughout the past 15-20 years he's been one of my primary sources for new bands. For every one band I've turned him onto, he's turned me onto probably 10. I look forward to this CD every year and still have all the one's he's sent and play them frequently.

I see what you are doing here and I like it.
