Hab fans sure are lucky they have those Cups to fall back on... they've been a fucking useless organization for nearly two decades now.

Last 16 seasons:
0 Cup Finals appearances
1 Conference Finals appearance (this year, thanks only to a sick run by Halak), which they were embarrassed in.

Yet they talk so much shit. It's sad.

Right, and every city in Canada hates the Leafs. Die hard Leaf fans truly hate the Canadiens - I wish nothing but terrible things to happen to Montreal.

Why are the Leafs hated? Because they are the most popular team in Canada and get most of the coverage.
They are also the most valuable NHL franchise and most profitable.

The Leafs have been failures on the ice for decades and habs fans are always rubbing Leaf fans noses in the fact that Montreal has more cups/recent etc.

The rivalry started 80 yrs ago when habs fans were French and Leaf fans English, Montreal was a larger city than Toronto up until 1969, Toronto was usually the underdog and the Leafs played second fiddle to the Habs .

AS far as cities go, Toronto surpassed Montreal in the late 60's in terms of population and political importance, the problems and unstability in Quebec drove many English speaking Quebecers to Ontario. Toronto is the business centre of this country, Montreal keeps falling behind and becomes less important.

The rivalry continues in some form, Toronto has an NHL, MLB & NBA team and we get the NFL Bills in town for a few games, Montreal can't keep a team other than the Habs.
