Was a long time ago. 1997 was the last time I owned a hoss. Had a partner on both my hosses.


Won 1 race in 5 starts, a couple of second place finishes.

Made money with my first claim and gave it all back on the next one.

The trainer of my horses died last year. He was also a friend I've known since 1982 when we met on the backstretch at Woodbine.

grew up 15 min from that shithole. most certainly helped mold my degeneracy in multiple facets of life.

Thoroughbreds.

A $16k claimer was the most expensive horse I owned.

She was a nice racehorse too, had her for 5 races, she never missed a paycheque and was claimed from me and my partner the day she won.

My other horse was a terrible claim, got him for 10k and ran him a half dozen times at Woodbine with no luck so we shipped him to Cleveland to run at Thistledown cause he was sore and needed chemical assistance and he finished 2nd in a $5k maiden race, sold him for $1k after that race and that was it for me owning horses.

I grew up not far from Woodbine and as a teen had summer jobs walking horses, started in 1982.


Choo, I've nevert been to Northfield but I know the racing rules in Ohio are much more lenient regarding drug use and that is why all the old cheap horses end u there, both Thoroughbred and Standardbred.
I have been to Thistledown a few times over the years.

Purses at Northfield are horrible, usually $2k a race.

We tried her in an allowance race and she finished 5th out of 9 horses - race was a turf race that got moved to the main track, allowance horses were too tough for her and we wanted wins not 5th place.

Bottom line she was a claimer and we ran her in claiming races - we weren't going to get rich with her, we were having fun and made a little money.

Training fees, vet work and feed costs add up and you gotta pay those bills whether the horse is winning or even running in races.

I have been around the track since I was a teenager and learned years ago to run your horse where it can win - they aren't pets but certainly can be a meal if you can't earn purse money.
