And the clock starts on the 48 hour deadline to make a trade. Boston will no doubt pick up the ~$2 million on his contract and have to send a prospect the other way, but he's a Type B free agent at the end of the season (and very close to being Type A).

Tigers, may just dump him and save $2million, will interesting what kind of prospects they could get for him. I dont see Epstein giving much up, but the Tigers need to factor the prospects plus saved money versus the draft pick.

Manny is surely going to be put on waivers sometime shortly and both TB and NYY have got to be front runners in that race.

I sure the Red Sox front office is having this conversation. If Manny was claimed, the Dodgers would sure let him go for free. Boston is trying to catch TB and NYY, and if Manny goes to one of those 2 teams, the Boston front office is going to have a lot of explaining to do.

It's all a bit too little too late for Boston; Damon isn't that much of an upgrade over Darnell McDonald or Bill Hall (who to his credit has played every position apart from 1B or C this season). He certainly isn't going to be the key between making or not making the postseason.

I'll leave my statistics out of it, then. But he was at best (and still is at least for Boston) a part time utility player who has played in ~75% of games this season due to the multitude of injuries and in that respect he hasn't done that bad of a job. But naturally a fully fit Youkillis/Pedrioa/Ellsbury/Cameron (well at least in every season apart from 2010) is a huge upgrade on Hall.

Has Manny got a NTC?

Although the ChiSox have a rotating DH spot, it has been a disaster this season; Mark Kotsay is the most regular DH and has hit .233 with 5 homers over 49 games. A fit Manny would make a big difference there.

Bill Hall is a nice bench guy, been forced to play more than he should have. His defense at 2nd base and in CF has been poor. I still think Damon could give you more than Hall, Damon wont play CF for the Sox, he would be a LF at best. Kalish bat has fallen, but that was expected he can play center, and then you have Drew in RF, I think that is the best OF the Sox can put out. McDonald can be your 4th OF.

Probably, but it's very negligible if at all based on this season's stats (and Damon is hitting under .220 this month but small sample size and all that). The biggest shot in the arm for Boston would be platooning Lowell and Delgado (assuming the latter can hit his projected numbers) to combat the lack of Youkillis.
