Wow! Just heard this and all I can say is great job Scott Boros. Knew the Phillies had no chance but thought the Red Sox were the frontrunners. Never believed that Washington was willing to spend that amount of cash.

A guy that gets this type of contract IMO is someone who will be "the man" on the team and I just don't see it. Werth is a very good player and great character guy but Ryan Zimmerman I believe is more valuable to the Nats. Can't wait to see his numbers for Washington without the quality guys he had surrounding him in Philly and playing in a pitcher's park in DC?

Adam Dunn is more proven over 9 good years than Werth with 3 and surprised the Nats didn't resign him especially when they didn't trade him last year before the deadline. Couldn't believe it but Werth will be 32 next year 5 months before Dunn.

Jayson, let's see how you do over a game stretch of Halladay, Hamels, and Oswalt. More power to him for what he got but I don't believe he can be a "front man" on a team?

Boras played the Nats like he played the Rangers. No other team was offering similar years.

Assuming that going forward he can replicate his first two full seasons to some degree, it's not a bad deal for the Nationals. The more pressing point is that he is 31 years old and only has two full seasons and this is a 7 year contract.

Braves will have to make a move now and sign another big bat.

The Braves can't afford another bat, nor do they need one. The bat you are talking about is probably going to be Freddie Freeman's. I would expect a ROY type campaign from the kid next season. That's what his pedigree would indicate. Add that to the expected improvement in Heyward from yaer 1 to year 2, and the addition of Uggla, and the Braves lineup is just fine. The pitching is outstanding as well. I'm really looking forward to next season.
