Not accepting Canadians any more!

Here is the email they sent:

It has come to our attention that you are using a Canadian bank card. In accordance with Canadian law we will now be unable to take bets from Canada.

Due to this, we will unfortunately have to block your debit/credit card and in turn close your account. You will still be able to withdraw any outstanding funds from your account for the next seven days. Please contact our support team if you require any assistance.

From 12pm GMT (Monday 14th February 2011), we will no longer be able to accept payments from Canadian sources.

We appreciate your custom and hope that your experience with paddypower.com was an enjoyable one. If you have any questions about this decision or your account in general please feel free to contact our Customer Service team using the details below.

Best Wishes,
Paddy Power Customer Service Team

What "Canadian Law" are these fuckers talking about?

This is not America!

(I am not talking about the continent)

Dear Paddy,

There is no anti-gaming law in Canada, and gaming is a provincial and not a federal jurisdiction.
We are not the US, we are a separate country north of there

.

I have withdrawn my remaining funds as you requested below.
I never deposited and so your form letter is incorrect.

If you can point to some Canadian legislation we are unaware of, please do so. Otherwise, you have just cost yourself a whack of Canadian players for no good reason.

It seems to be a problem with gtechg2 (www.gtechg2.com), which under their companies provide the poker and casino platforms of Paddy Power and other operators. It appears British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Loto-Quebec and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation are drafting laws for a possible launch of regulated online gaming in the near future. They have chosen gtechg2 to provide the platform for them.

As such they have stipulated that gtechg2 don't have any Canadian players currently in their system. So they have pulled out of Canada and are making their customer operators like Paddy to pulled out as well. I think that's ludicrous of the operators to do but there's must be some strong contractual agreements that are making them do it.

So for Paddy (and Bwin, etc.) it all comes down to breaking the relationship with gtechg2 and finding another provider or getting rid of Canadians. Their decision boiled down to how much revenue they are making from Canadians vs how much revenue they are making from Poker and Casino, I would guess.

God bless living in a country where we're allowed to legally bet with our OWN money without any hassles.

And winnings are tax-free.

Y'all should move to Europe then none of this stuff would matter :greencheck:

But, there are a bunch of companies refusing business from residents of Netherlands and France. Germany was/is another such country but things may have changed.
