Muddy, when you were a mod did you get to do anything smart? Maybe rather than smart it was something note worthy. Truly being a mod is note worthy in and of itself but beyond that was there anything? When you were a mod did you get the opportunity to ban anyone? If you were still a mod, would you be tempted to ban a poster like FightingIrish? Would Plommer be allowed to be so cocky if you still had the power of being a mod?

Wal,

as a mod at SBR, I was not empowered to do much of anything. I could not have banned someone if I wanted to. In the time I was a mod, which was a total of about 6 months, I think I sent out a few (3?) written warnings about things, without any real idea of how I could ever follow-up if the offensive behavior wasn't corrected.

I really didn't do a lot of policing. I was mostly there to talk about sportsbooks and the industry. I was good at that - smart - but no doubt I said too much at times - not smart.

A discussion of the mod experience could turn into a major essay but fair to say, I do not look upon the whole experience as a bright shining example of my smartness.

The question of if I would ban a poster like fightingirish has no simple answer. For years I posted at a private forum for professionals - and I was an administrator - and yes, I would ban someone like that there (or rather, they would never be accepted to join). But if I was working for someone else, I would really need to know their vision and I would decide from there how to moderate. Like if I was at SBR forum, I would definitely not ban him.
