How much to tip a cab driver

$5 if the driver says something funny or goes above and beyond from a genuine friendly standpoint.

$17 is a $5 tip from me. I normally only took taxis in NYC and was usually drunk, so I tipped more.

IF THAT is the correct answer.

I only have used a cab a few times ever, only in Vegas. I would give the $20 and that's it unless they were handling luggage, I would tip $5 then.

Cultural difference then. 20% is generous up here. I often have to top up tips when sharing cabs, 'cause people (upper middle class whites) tend to think that $2 is sufficient regardless of the fare.
