Guy is awfully impressive. Kicked a 53 yarder last night that would have been good from 65-70.

I could see a team taking him in the 3rd round next year. Think about how valuable having one kicker that could do both the punting and place kicking could be. You would save an entire roster spot for a position player every week. The guy also booms the kick offs into or out of the endzone with regularity, reducing the amount of run back yardage, and injuries to your kick coverage units.

That would be interesting to have a guy both place kicking and punting. I have seen it in the CFL a number of times but I don't remember it in the NFL (except in emergency injury situations). I wonder why that is. You would think if a guy had a strong leg, he would be good at both. Maybe not every single guy but a lot of guys.

I wonder if they actually force guys to just pick one specialty.

If I was coach, my main player would be the kicker. My strategy would revolve around him. I would kick field goals at first opportunity.

Reno I would agree with you if it was say if we went back to a past era in football but nowadays offense and scoring points (touchdowns) seems to be the main concern. Red zone offense or defense with regards to TDs vs FGs is a big stat.

Muddy, not many FG guys who are also punters might be a stature thing? Lot's of FG kickers seem to be stocky and not tall with a quick whip action of kicking. Longer legged guys seem to be needed for punting to get as much extension as possible on the follow through. Probably a random thought now that I read what I wrote?

Greatest punter ever IMO.

Steelers or Patriots could take him with a low first round or high second round pick..especially Steelers.

Steelers are the greatest team in NFL history at using the draft to build their team up. They would Never Ever use a first, second, or third round pick on a kicker... basically kickers are a dime a dozen (diamond dozen) and you can pick decent ones up off the scrap heap, Like they did with Jeff Reed, who lasted 7 years but got let go due to off the field issues. and their newest place kicker, did pretty good in his first game with 4 40+ fgs including the game winner in OT.

Likewise the Pats are a GREAT team at using their draft picks wisely. I could see a dome team taking him in the 3rd round, if they happened to have a few extra early round picks

I think maybe the difference is in the accuracy components of both placekicking and punting. A guy might have a booming leg for both punts and place kicking. But he might not be accurate enough at either splitting the uprights or to place his punts inside the 20, directionly kick away from a good kick returner, angle the kick towards the out of pounds, get enough hang time ect.

or maybe it is just the fear of having your kicker that does all kicking duties get hurt and have all your special teams fuked up, having some random position player like ochocinco kick for the rest of the game.

See Mr.Monkey.
Denver drives gets to the opponent 35. 1st down. Get sacked end up punting. Now they'll never get past the 50 for the rest of the game.

With my strategy and a good kicker we would have the lead. I see this over and over again.

Archie,

The current Falcons punter Koenen when he first came up they used him for the first 3-4 games for kickoffs, punts and FG's. Then after 4 games they brought Andersen to do the FG's but Koenen still punts and does the kickoffs.

The problem with having someone doing all 3 duties is he gets to kick the ball much more than anticipated increasing the possibility of injury and if he goes out of the game you are basically screwed up because not only you can't kick FG's but you can't punt or kickoff.
