What are people's thoughts about hedging a live bet with another bet, placed later in time, also on live?

Intuitively, this would seem like you're reducing any edge you have. However, I've made several live bets on World Cup / Baseball that always seem to get blown up, and I've had plenty of opportunity to hedge for a guaranteed profit.

Should I suck it up and just keep my edge and pick pennies up off the ground with hedges?

Thanks for the responses - Normally, if I think about hedging, the play DOES NOT have a positive edge to it.

The positive edge will appear, somewhat consistently, for about 30 seconds on the previously bet side before Bodog catches up, and almost never appears on the hedge side.

You can afford to bet more originally if you intend on hedging. Even if that hedge is negative ev. So if you have a large edge to start, betting more and hedging out is something you should consider. Kind of like a partial arb.

The one problem with betting more is hoping that the hedge appears. I've had a nice edge on a total (if you consider pinnacle's live lines to be pretty accurate), only to have a team immediately score and kill any opportunity to hedge.

Same with baseball - I get a nice edge in the middle of the inning, only to have the home team take the lead or lower the run differential. Maybe I'm just cursed.
