I saw Crazy Heart last night and I am betting Jeff Bridges to win Best Actor. Not just because of what I saw - which was truly outstanding - but also because of the general buzz.

He's a pretty big favorite (-449 at Pinny) but I have done well laying the chalk on the Oscars over the years. It's one of just a few situations where I don't mind it.

Let's do this thing.

He's winning this. If you have bankroll to lay, lay it.

I haven't even seen it and I LOATHE Jeff Bridges. Robyn and I actually have coined a term whenever any actor on tv intentionally stutters to appear confused, flustered or just plain fuckin stupid..we say the went to the Jeff Bridges School of Acting. If you catch some of his early gems, you'll get it.

But I seen the previews, I know the buzz, and I get dues being paid. Lock it up. Droopy eyed Bridges FTW.

Very comparable role to Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler last year. It doesn't have the physical requirements but it has some very good puking scenes.

In Bridges' favor, there is no Sean Penn as an extremely gay fella in the competition.

Really? Of the 10 Best Picture nominees, there are some I find to be much bigger head-scratchers than Up In The Air.

Bridges aside, I thought the movie Crazy Heart was very good. Quite a bit better than some of the Best Pic nominees.

But in terms of my Best Actor wager, I don't see them giving it to Clooney who was good but really just playing himself again. He's already got an Oscar.

Morgan Freeman already has 2. No need to go there again unless he really knocks your socks off which he didn't.

Jeremy Renner? Nice job but pay some dues.

Colin Firth. I see him as the wildcard. I haven't seen that pic yet.

But Bridges was so good. Some good singing on top of everything else.

Up In The Air was not a BAD movie, but I have never fallen asleep at a movie theatre until I went to see that one.

And, the previews were way, way off.

They showed lots of Zach Galifianakis and Bust-Ass, they are hardly in the movie at all.

Haven't seen that movie, MC, but another down-on-his-luck character? Not much of a stretch for actors. They either lived it or are still living it (Rourke). I suppose there's a few guys here that could pull it off.

(I thought Joaquin Phoenix did a great Johnny Cash. No Oscar. At least as good as Jamie Fox's Ray).

I am not at ALL a Jeff Bridges fan nor am I a fan of that disgusting looking/acting chick Maggie Gyllenhaal (or her annoying brother). My guess that spending any time in their household growing up would be some of the worst moments spent in a lifetime. They both have blank, almost alien-like stares and when they smile, their eyes seem to forget to follow. I don't trust people who can't smile with their eyes. I learned that from Tyra.

That would be an over-simplification but it would be a reasonable starting point for the sake of discussion.

He looks so much like Kris Kristofferson (sp?) sometimes it is spooky. I don't know if there should be any significance attached to that; I don't know KK's story. But you can't help but notice.

Oh my...is that possibly the story of Kristofferson's life? I never knew Kristofferson was a musician until maybe 13 years ago when I started listening to Todd Snider's music. KK, along with Loudon Wainwright III and John Prine are huge influences to his music.

LOL. Jeezuz.

I don't mind any of the people you named. They all seem too innocuous to be too put out by. I thought Maggie was very good in Crazy Heart (but I don't see myself wagering on her).

You remind me of a scene from Family Guy though. Wonder if it is on YouTube . . .

No. Oddly, I could only find a Spanish version of it but Jake and Maggie are sitting at a table arguing when their father comes in:

Maggie: "I'm more off-putting."
Jake: "No I'm more off-putting."
Maggie: "I'm more unattractive to put in a lead role."
Jake: "Well I'm a bigger box office drag."
Dad: "Kids, kids - you're both . . . just . . . awful."

I doubt there is any connection other than the fact that aging scraggly-bearded white guys who have traveled a few hard miles just get that look. I checked around at imdb and didn't see any mention of KK.

It's based on a novel.

Speaking of that....what happened to Katie Holmes? Can we discuss this here?

There was a time where i named her as my "hottest celeb" chick. My god...Her in The Gift, Go, Dawsons Creek. Couldn't get much cuter.

And now. ick. How is this possible?
