A woman walks in, said Finkelstein. She stands up and starts clapping very loud. Next thing that happens is the defendant kicks his feet, the shackles come off as if they were not fastened or he had a key, runs out of the courtroom.

Courthouse official Bill Gellin was there during the aftermath of his escape. I was in the courtroom before he left out of there, said Gellin. I didnt see him go, but I came back when I heard about it. Apparently, he just shot up. He may have nodded at somebody in the audience. Thats not proven yet, but he bolted out of there, shed his jail clothes and his cuffs.

Finkelstein described what took place before and during the hearing, which leads authorities to believe Resiles had help. There was a carjacking about an hour before the hearing took place, said Finkelstein. Nobody knows if thats related, but it does become important because the defendant was in the courtroom.
