I finally got this after countless hours of study at various forums. I've long since forgetten though so I am debating whether to watch this again and start the internal dialogue.

I posed the problem to my brother one day (not even the MIT one) and he answered correctly immediately...he's a numbers guy to though, so didn't completely surprise me..Some people are like that...me...yeah makes my brain hurt too. ...in a good way though...I like finally getting to the aha! moment.
 
I actually get it. The host cannot reveal the car, so in 2 of 3 cases, he doesn't actually have a choice.

In essence, you're guaranteed to win the car if you initially pick a goat and then switch, which will happen 2 out of every 3 tries.

The odds get flipped because the host *has* to open a door that's not the car.
