I did and it really seemed that was blown out of proportion to me. I don't even know that it even paints him as a racist necessarily as much as someone who is rightly or wrongly "aware" of what he perceives as the reality of the world.

Repeatedly says he loves black people ...I guess his excuse is weak, but people say much worse things every day imo. Maybe I will listen to it again after more coffee.
