At The Movies, which has a 35 year history going back to when it was started by Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert in 1975, has broadcast its last episode.

I really liked that show and have watched it through it's various incarnations and hosts. As a big movie buff, the format was perfect for me. Clips and talk. They would review a combination of the big new Hollywood releases while mixing in a healthy dose of docs and foreign films and art stuff. It helped me keep my finger on the pulse.

Having a couple of hosts that I saw week-in-and-week-out would allow me to get in tune with their taste and be better able to judge if I would regret seeing something. (Perhaps oddly, Roger Ebert, the most celebrated host in the show's history, was the most useless to me.)

You don't know what you've got till it's gone. I took it for granted and now I don't know how I am going to fill the void. I realize there are a zillion bloggers and movies forums on the net. Does anyone have a consistent weekly package you recommend. Ideally a video format with clips; I don't want to just read blogs.

I found it so lame compared to Ebert's written reviews, which I read almost religiously even if I have no intention of watching the movie he's writing about.

Ebert was a watered-down version of himself when he was on TV.

LOL look at this phucker

I just found Ebert to be all over the place. Too often I would watch a movie based on an Ebert thumb and find myself saying, "WTF is that idiot on?"

People complained like hell about Ben Lyons when he was co-host but I could always get some feeling for how I would feel about a movie based on how he talked about it. Ebert gave me nothing. He liked so much crap.

I have heard he (Ebert) is going to be starting something up like what I am looking for on the net. I don't know how that would work. I presume it would not be his face.

If it is his opinions, it would be the last thing I would watch.

What I will probably do come this weekend is see what the two outgoing hosts of AtTheMovies, AO Scott and Michael Phillips, have available. They are pretty good and I am in tune with their styles so it makes sense to stick with it. They hinted that they may get back to an At The Movies type format in the future. I hope so.

Good news for me. At The Movies is going to be relaunched in Jan. 2011 as Roger Ebert Presents At The Movies. Looks like it is being produced by Ebert but he won't be on it so good.

The principle co-hosts will be Christy Lemire and Elvis Mitchell. Christy Lemire is pretty hot too. A bit of a high gum-to-tooth ratio but still very nice.

I suspect I may be the only one here who gives a shit about this but I am extremely happy about it. I can return to my beloved weekly ritual. I was having a hard time filling the gap and getting my movie info in a palatable way. Very happy.
