I'm getting a bit tired of everyone putting their curling comments all over the place so here is a central place for that.



So first of all, the women from my home province of Ontario, skipped by Rachel Homan, won the Scotties (Canadian Women's Championship), defeating former World Champ Jennifer Jones in the final, and will now represent Canada at the Worlds in Riga Latvia in a couple weeks.


Next time we see her, she will be wearing the red and white and the Maple Leaf!

Meanwhile the Brier (Canadian Men's Championship) is on this week and it is jam-packed with former world champs and Olympic Gold Medal winners. It's amazing how often, even though there are so many one-game, anything-can-happen situations along the way, the top guys always seem to rise to the top.

Big news is Kevin Martin, arguably the greatest of all time, is off to a disastrous start at 2-4. However defending Brier and World champ Glen Howard is sitting at 6-0 as is former Gold Medalist Brad Gushue. Two-time world champ Jeff Stoughton is at 5-1.

Canada looking to be well represented at the worlds.

You used to get some shortish skirts once in awhile but not much of that any more. They are serious athletes and they dress accordingly (while generally keeping on top of the make-up situation which we are glad of).

Curling is a sport by any definition. There is no debate.

But if anyone personally doesn't enjoy it and wants to teach it a lesson for being something they don't enjoy, and saying it is not a sport is their way of doing it, I'm sure curling is suitably taken aback.
 
Yes indeedy. It's not just the stuff I talk about either, which is basically just the yearly Canadian and World Championships (and Olympics every 4 years). With those, every game of any consequence is shown. They run three games a day plus all playoffs.

But there is also a season long tour and several special events like Skins games and Continental challenges. There is stuff going on every weekend, more-or-less comparable to golf.

Excellent TV numbers for curling. Large and loyal following.

Perhaps I will look up some comparative ratings at some point. I would bet that the Brier this week is doing a lot better than the Raptors.
 
Curling is definitely a sport. I draw the line at poker. Poker is not a sport, because there is no physical requirement whatsoever to be good at poker. Someone with no limbs could be the world's best poker player by using a mouth-controlled joystick which moved a robotic arm.

Likewise, I could be good at poker if Phil Ivey stood over my shoulder and told me exactly what to do. If an Olympian curler stood over my shoulder and told me exactly how to release the rock, I would still suck balls at it.
