With the NHL trade deadline one week away, one of the potential trading gems could be damaged goods. According to the Dallas Morning News, Stars center Brad Richards is suffering from concussion like symptoms after a collision with Sami Pahlsson of the Columbus Blue Jackets last week.
The Dallas Stars did not specify the extent of his injury until Saturday when head coach Marc Crawford admitted that Richards is having issues with dizziness among other things.
While Richards continues to work out off the ice, he has not skated since the incident. Richards has missed three games so far but Crawford said they will not rush Richards back for any reason.
So where does that leave all the NHL trade rumors about Brad Richards? He is set to become an unrestricted free agent at seasons end, and Richards is most likely looking for that long term contract, and this latest concussion may not be helping his chances.
The Stars do not want to let a guy like Richards walk at the end of the season with out getting anything in return but they also realize they cannot get much for him with his injury. But, then again these are just rumors, nothing ever came out from the Stars media about trading him.
They are currently in a playoff spot but have lost four games in a row, a slide that has left them on the verge of falling out of the top eight in the highly competitive Western Conference.
If any of those NHL trade rumors floating around the internet and media are true, do not expect the Stars to trade Richards before the trade dead line. He is the biggest reason why they are even in the tight Western playoff race. And if they were thinking of trading him, you can toss that out the window. No team will cough up any value for an injured Star like Richards, especially with out knowing how long he is out for. This injury may of kept Richards in Dallas for a few more years to come.
