There are two times a year when as a sports fan it just doesnt get any better than March Madness and the College Bowl season. Yes, there are always a few ugly looking games but still and all for the most part every game has something to get at least a little excited about.
There are 35 bowl games set starting December 28th and running through January 10th. Obviously the marquee matchup will be between Auburn and Oregon for the National Title game but there are several very good matchups leading up to that game.
On 12/24/10 at 8:00 we have Tulsa/Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl and while this game might not be between a couple of gladiators it promises to be electrifying from a scoring perspective.
Next we have the Holiday Bowl on 12/30/10 matching up Nebraska and Washington. This game has some very good entertainment value.
The very next day, 12/31/10 we have the Sun Bowl with Miami and Notre Dame and while on paper this might look like a dud of a game I think it has potential to be explosive as well. It will all depend on how the Hurricanes react to their new coach. I havent seen a line but I like Notre Dame to win this game. We also have Georgia against Central Florida and I do expect Georgia to win this game Central Florida will be a very live dog in this contest with serious upset potential. The nightcap game on the final day of 2010 is FSU/South Carolina and while the majority of the country might not think this game will be all that entertaining I see potential here for a quality game.
January 1, 2011 I will need 2 TVs and the ability to split my attention simultaneously as there are 2 games on at the same time that I want to watch. While Florida/Penn St could be an absolute dud of a game Im a Gator fan and I will be interested to see what the public scrutiny will do to change what Florida does on offense. For those not a Gator fan the Michigan St/Alabama game could possibly be one of the best bowl games of them all. The games stay hot with Michigan/Mississippi St and the Bulldogs win this game by the way followed by what could be a great game between Wisconsin and TCU. The only dud game of the day is the nightcap game between UConn and Oklahoma. Stoops has laid an egg in bowl games in previous years but unless the Sooners just dont show up they will win this game and win big.
Stanford/Virginia Tech on 1/3/11 should be a great game as well. No team has been hotter than Virginia Tech after they got off to an embarrassing 0-2 start and no coach is more of a Hot Ticket than Stanfords Jim Harbaugh. Stanfords defense will be put to the test for sure as will the Hookies but in the end I really expect V-Tech to be the winner.
On 1/4/11 the SEC vs Big Ten in the Sugar Bowl has Arkansas taking on Ohio St. We will be treated to 2 very good quarterbacks in this game and I think it will be a very entertaining game, entertaining and enjoyable if you arent a Buckeye fan, sorry coach Tressel you just cant beat an SEC team.
There are plenty of great matchups this bowl season but the biggest for most will be the Big One between Auburn and Oregon. On paper this game appears to be a high scoring equal contest and maybe it will be. Personally I dont think so, I think Auburn dominates this game and wins easy by 10+.
