Hope no one is upset but I had an urge to do a 100% sport's related thread. Not many games tonight and good game to catch early (7PM ESPN2) before the Oregon-Auburn battle. I know Wally has ND tonight but I'm going with the Warriors -3. That's right, the Warriors! Everyone so sensitive.
Looking at power rating places like Kenpom, Statfox, and Sargain the Fighting Irish appear to be the play tonight. Both teams seem to mirror themselves with their play.
Both teams go to the foul line a lot while limiting their opponents to less chances. The FTA/FGA stat shows ND at 47% and Marq. 43% while on defense ND is 24% as compared to Marq. holding opponents to 23%. So something has to give?
Also for not being very big size wise, both teams are successful going to the offensive glass. Both teams have a good EFG%. Big edge though for ND is they shoot the 3 ball at a 38% clip while Marq. is one of the worst defenders in the nation at that with a 38.5%.
Roster wise both teams don't go deep off the bench. ND has played without best shot blocker and 2nd best rebounder Carelton Scott last 2 games but has beaten both quality opponents. Dwight Buycks banged up for Marq. but should play.
ND's SOS ranking is better while also both teams have played Wisconsin and Gonzaga as common opponents. ND won while Marq. lost both contests.
For me though I look for Marq. to force ND to miss a few more 3PT shots than usual and hope the fired up packed house at the Bradley Center lifts the home team Warriors to a cover win.
1976-77 team Would these guys be referred to as gangsters today?
