Yes Blitty, calm down! By the way, relatively speaking you didn't even make it to the playoffs with CGNY, eh? I go as far as saying your time with her was like this year's hockey season, shorten! Blitty, we all know, it's her not you! :cheers:
 
Okay "Bernier sucks" is a bit harsh but I don't think the Leafs are much improved, if at all, after the trade. Scrivens was just fine. Giving up a decent prospect and a 2nd round pick on top of that is overpaying, for damn sure.
 
Frattin and Scrivens are not prospects though. Frattin will be a career 3rd liner who can chip in maybe 12 - 17 goals with decent linemates. Scrivens is a decent backup. The 2nd will be a low 2nd rounder for sure. The Leafs do retain $500K in salary. I don't like this, but the players we gave up and the pick is no big deal.

I love this trade for both teams. Bernier has a ton of upside and has been groomed for a starting role; spent plenty of time working on game in minors and has looked awesome in small sample size at the NHL level. Always super poised, never fighting the puck, super sound positionally. Makes it look easy. Only "weakness" in his game is that he can get a bit flustered with consistent pressure from big bodies in his crease. He'll need to work on fighting through traffic for positioning. But that could easily come with experience.

Kings get what we've been sorely lacking on the third line since Simmonds' departure; a speedy grinder with hands. Not saying he's Simmonds, but he seems like a solid 3rd liner that can slot in on 2nd line if necessary and pot the occasional goal (8 - 12). Love me some Trevor Lewis, but the dude has hands of stone.

My big question is; what to do with Reimer? Bernier doesn't need another goalie controversy; deserves chance to pick up 60+ starts.

Good to see you back at GL. I think you are right that this is a good trade for both teams. I do think that Frattin is capable of putting up more goals if given solid minutes on the 3rd or 2nd lines. He is a strong fella and is hard to knock off the puck and he has excellent speed. You guys also have a very decent backup in Scrivens and should be solid when called on.

Reimer..... well I think he's a very decent goalie, but he has a notoriously weak glove hand and is brutal when playing the puck so I see Bernier clinching the starters role and getting 60+ starts. Remember that Norris winning and Stanley Cup winning coach Carlyle loves punishing defensemen so clearing the net should help Bernier with those big bodies in front of him.

It should be an interesting couple months or so for all teams. Cap issues will make the draft, free agency very, very interesting.
