A few of them laugh I imagine but professional athletes have never seemed blessed, as a group, with great serenity and spiritual insight. Many of them are at least as caught up in themselves as the fans.

I'm sure when things go badly they tell themselves any number of lies about how they don't care who says what. They might laugh bitterly, dishonestly.

But when things are going well and fans are declaring them gods, they wallow in it like a pig in shit.

But it's like anything. All athletes are not one thing and neither are all fans.

I personally see nothing laughable about getting invested in a team and having emotions about their fortunes. We all have to pass the hours of our lives and that is one way. People have different hobbies and interests, and I don't see that anything is more correct than anything else. Personal taste.

But, yeah, there is some ridiculous, hysterical extremism no doubt.

I think so. I mean all this bs rivalry, yada yada.
I mean I've seen enough player interviews to know they see things differently from fans. They are professionals and they know they're in a business.

Like I said before, its all very similar to professional wrestling. Thats why I believe international competition is vastly superior, at least there is something possibly important that unites the players. (and thats why you don't bite people when your representing your country )
