"Turtle Power" -- Partners in Kryme, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

Best Line: "Raphael: He's the leader of the group/ Transformed from the norm by the nuclear goop"

Worst Line: "They didn't say they'd be there in half an hour/ 'Cuz they displayed -- Turtle Power!"

This is essentially a 1980s party rap about the Turtles. It also helpfully recounts most of the plot of the first film, so you don't even have to go see the movie! (It made $201 million, so you probably did anyway.) This was actually Partners in Kryme's first single, hitting No. 13 on the Hot 100 -- and No. 1 in the UK. But it's a bold decision to make your first radio single as a hip-hop duo about a children's movie. The move did not pay off for Partners in Kryme.

(Note: I don't care that the "best line" is not accurate. Leonardo's the leader of the group, obviously, but any rhyme that includes the word "goop" is automatically great.)

was with one girl in highschool, she had a teenage mutant ninja turtle fetish, it would always have to be on when we went at it, really weirded me out. She was all about Splinter. I think she works at Spencers now.

The whole TMNT phenomenon has bypassed me so far. It's weird. With this head full of useless knowledge that I carry around every day, there is startlingly little about the TMNT's.

Wouldn't know Splinter if he jumped out of my soup.

Who me?

To be honest, I'm not even sure what exactly hip hop means. Sometimes I hear something described as hip hop and I would have guessed it was pop or rap or something else.

Fair to say it is not an all-time great topic for me. All I generally strive for in my Jeopardy dreaming ways is surface knowledge. I have some of that with hip hop, but it's not great. Less than rock, opera, show tunes, country - less than most music.

As far as value, it's just another kind of music I don't listen to much. I don't have a lot of curmudgeonly feelings about it like, "Damn those kids and their loud music and their good-time parties."

:mudcat:

People like different things. I have figured that out. As far as Jeopardy, it doesn't come up particularly often but sometimes ---> I still try to pick up what I can.

I think there is a lot of ignorance from many people concerning Hip Hop.

It has a strong foundation that has been tarnished in the mainstream. You have to weed through a lot of garbage but there are gems to be found.

People that are familiar with the history usually respect it.

I think that the genre/lifestyle got stuck with a crappy name 'Hip Hop'. Tough to take it serious with that name
