The Fall (2006) - Holy fokken wow. I cannot believe that this movie got such a crappy rating at Rotten Tomatoes. People who hate this film must be the most cold-hearted, unimaginative accountants ever. These people need to be wiped off the Earth - we simply do not need them.

Great great movie, easily the most visually stunning I've ever seen too. 8.9 Matty Rains.

The Square (2008) - Decent film noir. A rather simple plan goes wrong, more wrong, a lot more wrong and so on until it's utter omglolzwtfepicfail. Everyone has a tacomax-ish accent in there, not sure what's up with that. 7.2 Matty Rains.

Next to Pan's Labyrinth, The Fall is probably the best movie I've ever seen. And we found it completely on accident. There was only one copy on the shelves at Blockbuster and the cover caught my eye. We had no idea what we were getting into. How amazing is the acting between Roy and Alexandria?

The opening scene is ridiculous.

Did you really touch my big toe? Yes.

Don't lie, did you touch my big toe? Yes.

Did you really touch my big toe? Yes!

You touched my big toe? Yes, uh, no.

What? Did you touch my big toe? Yes.

:lmao:

Matt, duh. You will listen to me from now on.

I wonder if Amby would like The Fall??

My favorite part is when those tribal people are doing that crazy chant and you get all these quick shots from all over the world. The main chanting guy seemed like someone I'd enjoy talking to.

I don't follow Rotten Tomatoes but it is 7.9 at imdb which is very high, just a tenth of a point off the top 250 all-time list.

I just saw a couple of rentals recently, probably nothing of much interest to gamelive but here they are anyway:

Toy Story 3 - This didn't do it for me. I see it is rated fricken 8.8 at imdb and is the #23 movie of all time. I'm sure it will dip somewhat but still, that seems crazy high. I just don't get it. I like kid's movies but this didn't stand out for me. Quite depressing in parts actually. I give it a 5.5 out of 10.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (2009) - I love the Harry Potter movies but this is my least favorite. Still good but comparatively draggy and lacklustre. 6.4 out of 10.

Other than that, I watched some TV on DVD.

Californication - Season 3 - Not impressed. It was touch and go if I was going to bother watching to the end of the season but I did make it. I just find it shticky. The humor is broad in the most negative sense of the word. Other than Hank, all the characters are annoying. Kathleen Turner was just embarrassing. Then it ended on a really strong note which will make me want to see Season 4, at least how it starts - so I give them credit for that. Overall I give the season a 5 out of 10.

Burn Notice - Season 1 - a friend of mine recommended this and loaned me the DVD's. It is a very typical network series, extremely formulaic. Within the predictable formula, it has some charm and humor. It is okay for some mindless late night viewing but I doubt I would watch it except that my friend, who generally has good taste, told me it starts out slow but gets really good where he is which I believe is around season 3 or 4. So I'll keep watching and see where it goes.
