1. I go see the doctor

2. He sends me a bill

3. I ignore the bill

4. 6 months later a collection company requests I pay half of the original medical bill

5. I ignore that

6. Some other collection company requests that I pay a fraction of that bill

Question: at this point should I pay or just keep ignoring?

What is the worst/best case scenario that happens next?

Best case is that after years of collection calls they offer to pay you for the debt incurred.

1. at that point your credit is already fucked

2. works only with the ER, can't really do that with specialists or long term hospital stay
My credit is amazing, figured it would get dinged but nothing has happened

Total racket carnal.

The more I bring it up others agree it is a game the system plays and you are either a sucker that pays up quick or you just wait it out with no repercussions

Blitty’s a wild dude
This has accidentally been the case for 2 out of 20 medical bills

I don’t mind paying them but just curious what the verdict could end up being

I just don’t understand how this is possible.

Only thing I can guess is they weren't the hospital's or doctor's bills? anesthesiologists or radiologist for example bill independently, those independent professionals usually work in cooperative groups, sometimes those groups are tiny like 3 or 4 members small, and I can see those small groups not chasing after bills and reporting to credit bureaus like the hospitals would

I guess the game would be to know who can you fuck with or not

Yes we have excellent insurance. There’s still plenty of out of pocket expenses

It’s about principle and curiosity with how the system works.

I’ve experienced this ordeal 3 times now. First time I got $500 bill from a quick knee doc appt. Kind of forgot about it, and next thing I knew there was collections letter.

The general perception is like trons ‘pay up whatever they say or collections will destroy your credit’

Doesn’t seem to be the case for some reason.

Seems like a mystery that not many people know exactly what will happen.

I prefer not to get ripped off, if I have any control over it.
