Yeah but take out oil and gas and the Canada numbers are very small. Since the USA has more than enough natural reasources domestically, especially if we're tapping strategic reserves, all that really matters is finished goods (and some natural resources we don't have, like rare earth metals).

there are different types of oil and different types of refineries only process certain types. we need to import oil types that we don't extract much of in the US. I think the transportation linkage which keystone pipeline convenience makes it hard to not use Canada's maple bacon Timmy labatt type of oil

US produces mostly sweet crude that is easier to refine but provides less products.
Heavy (sour) oil needs more refining but produces jet fuel. The US sells most of its sweet crude oil products and buys Canadian crude at a hugh discount that it can refine into higher profit products (Diesel/Jet fuel etc).

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem acknowledged on “Meet the Press” that Trump’s tariffs could raise prices but said the blame would fall on other countries for not following Trump’s demands, rather than the president, encouraging other countries to “get on board and to make sure that they’re not pushing up prices” and claiming “if prices go up, it’s because of other people’s reactions to America’s laws.”
