Feeling nostalgic tonight. Remembering those endless nights blowing on cartridges and learning cheat codes. Here is my personal list of the top 5 Nintendo games of all time
5. Castlevania: What made this game so great is when it came out, it had the most detailed macabre graphics. Not really bloody but the detailing and the soundtrack gave it an eerie vibe. It was also a game not so difficult that you got frustrated months later not finishing it.
4. Techmo Bowl: Yes the graphics were weak but when it came out, I’d play hours of this w my school friends as we snuck glasses of boxed wine in my friends basement. Perfect drinking video game for 15 year olds.
3. Super Mario Brothers: Ironic and has spawned more sequels than Police Academy. The music will never leave your head even decades later. So many Easter eggs in the game that after you beat it, you HAD to replay it to find them.
2. Double Dribble: The first sports game with decent graphics. Nothing more fun than dunking and the screen going full as you watched your player slam one down. Came out around the same time as “Blades Of Steel” which was its hockey equivalent.
1. Mike Tysons Punch Out: The game that had it all. The opening montage that rivaled the movie Rocky. The cast of characters with their distinctive fighting styles and smack talk. A game JUST difficult enough to make you wanting more. Bad Bull took a bit to get passed IMO. Timing that punch was a pain to master. Beating Tyson was a rush I’ll never forget.
Honorable Mentions:
Legend Of Zelda
Kung Fu
Duck Hunt
Double Dragon
Zaxxon
