Why is the year 1900 the start of the modern era in MLB

good question. just a convenient start date with a new century or maybe some mixture of using gloves and not pitching under hand, not throwing that ball at base runners like kickball to get them out?
I have read some articles where they make mention of the modern era and starting at 1900, what changed during this period to make it the modern era?
 
MLB first ALLOWED over hand pitching in 1884.

the record books still show the complete game single season record holders from the underhand days. where guys threw 70+ CG in a year.

but they ruined the record books this year when they let Negro league stats in there, anyways
