RIP Jerry West

The Logo
Known as "Mr Clutch" back in the day for late pressure performances. If wasn't for the Celtics the Lakers would have no doubt won more titles in the 60's! Couldn't stop him from scoring points!!!

Too young with not much TV coverage missing out on 76ers championship couple years earlier but remember this play clearly. Became a Knicks fan (Clyde Frazier fav player) when in Game 3 of title series looked like a sure NY win until West did the impossible. No 3PT play back then.

Had to make deal with parents to watch games in LA on school nights that started at 11:30 to take a nap and wake up right before game. Thinking probably had to fake it at times with mom coming into room lol. National TV audience watching didn't take priority in those days.

Without Reed at 100% in Game 7 looked like no way Knicks winning but emotional entrance by him scoring two early baskets propelled them to NY's first NBA title.

Forgot to mention the Knicks prevailed in OT to lead 2-1 in series and if not, believe Lakers would carried that momentum to title.

Also has me looking up stuff West year before losing to Celtics in 7 games averaged 38 per game.

Jerry West averaged 30.5 points, 5.6 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 55 games in the NBA Finals in his career.

Jerry West averaged 29.1 points, 6.3 assists and 5.6 rebounds in 153 games in the playoffs in his career.

West's 46.3 points per game remains the highest scoring average for any playoff series in NBA history; Chicago's Michael Jordan, who averaged 45.2 ppg in a five-game series against Cleveland in 1988, is next.

All-time top 10 PLAYOFF scorers per game list include Jordan and Iverson and 6 current players. Other two still there after retiring 50+ years ago are West and teammate Elgin Baylor.

Unfortunate Baylor never won a title ....
He led the Lakers to the NBA Finals eight times, was a 10-time All-NBA First Team selection, and played in 11 NBA All-Star Games. At one time Baylor owned records for most points in a game, in a playoff game, and in one half of a playoff game.

Baylor averaged 27.4 points and 13.5 rebounds during his 14-year career with the Minneapolis and Los Angeles Lakers. In 134 playoff games, he averaged 27.0 points and 12.9 rebounds. From 1960-61 through 1962-63 he averaged 34.8, 38.3, and 34.0 points, respectively.

RIP Dr Ruth Westheimer

When I was in the 3rd grade I’d listen to her radio show on Sunday nights. It was quite graphic (especially for a 3rd grader). She taught me all about sex and I would regularly share what I learned in class.

Fast forward to my high school years, and she came to my school to talk about the Holocaust. I was able to tell her how much a fan I was growing up and she was super cool. So freaking tiny also.

She lived to 96. Good for her!
