I thought it was a no-no for addicts in recovery to get involved with each other?

or that just in the beginning?

It is widely accepted that anyone brand new in recovery should not be getting into a new heavy relationship with anyone, addict or otherwise. While it is a concept with many gray areas, there are good reasons behind it.

As for the more general idea that addicts should not get involved with each other at all, I wouldn't be surprised if there are people who would say that but it would be a fringe idea. I have known many, many addicts who have coupled up and it seems completely accepted in the community. The success of those relationships is, in my unscientific observation, about the same as relationships between regular earth people.

Well I have already heard second-hand how I am viewed with some suspicion but that's okay.

Not to worry. I just spoke to the 10 year-old on the phone. The boys are already at her place and I am going over at ~7. He asked me to bring my Rubik's sphere puzzle when I come over. Jen must have told him about it at some point. I said sure. I will also bring a couple other Rubik's puzzles I have.

So there we go, one ready-made source of conversation and activity (which doesn't involve me singing). Good start.

Now I have been emailing back and forth with the 13 year-old. He asked me to send some pics his mother told him about - which I did.

I have to thank betplom because I got them from him in an old thread at S-faggot-R. Might as well attach them here for a laugh. He and his mother actually do use f-bombs with each other in case you are wondering if it is appropriate.

The main point being, there has been some significant ice already broken.

The word I would use to describe the historic meeting: excellent.

I might throw an outstanding in there.

They are great kids. It was a lot of fun. We gabbed for a bit and looked at a few things on YouTube that the 13 year-old wanted to show me - we had some laughs. We had brownies that the 10 year-old had made (with perhaps just a little help). They were delicious. Then the young one wanted me to play guitar. He actually requested The Devil which is a song I wrote which is on my YouTube channel. So that seemed very flattering. I played about 5 songs and they both seemed completely fascinated.

Among those songs, I did two Gordon Lightfoots - and I also spoke a bit about the importance of Gordon Lightfoot in my life and to Canadian culture in general. So not only did I have fun as a fellow kid, but I felt like I did a certain amount of contributing to their education, almost like an adult.

Various things were said which suggested that I was seen as a definite step up for mom from their dad.

Jenn was very happy and excited. You could see how proud she is of those kids and she felt like she was showing off something very special to me. She also seemed very proud of me. She was almost giddy some of the time.

I was a bit nervous but now I am looking forward to seeing them again.

I watched that and it gave me shivers. Then it brought tears to my eyes.

Sure I can play it. I wouldn't know all the lyrics off the top of my head but I should print them off and stick them in my songbook.

Good idea.

Also if I am to get serious about my role as teacher of Canadian musical culture I should work on the Canadian Railroad Trilogy.

Good to hear.

The post-meeting reviews are in. I can't even tell you all the stuff they said because it would just seem like bragging.

In summary, the lads are not happy with the idea of mom having a boyfriend but if she must, they are glad it's me.

I am chill. :shades:

Just don't mention the boinking.

PS: When you first made eye contact with them did you think:
"I am boinking your mother"?

Sick.
