10 and 13 year old boys who live with their dad.

I am supposed to bring my guitar and perform. Apparently the young one is expected to be fascinated with that but I am dubious about going into this situation where I want to make a good impression and making a lot of dorky singing faces.

The 13 year-old is into hip hop. I don't know any hip hop.

Well too bad - I am the grown-up and I say that they are young Canadian lads and it's time they started having Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot hammered into them like good Canadians should.

I am nervous. In my life, my ability to relate to younger people has been spotty. I am going over all the things I know about them in my mind, and thinking of little humorous angles. Rehearsing. Not good.

If you want instant street cred, bring them a ps3 and some cool games (i.e. nhl 2010) and let them keep it.

Might seem like trying too hard, but they will love it too much to stick with that conclusion. they will love you beyond belief.

That is if they don't already have one.

It is going to be tough regardless. I would suggest to leave the guitar out of it to start. I hope it is a light meeting....something fun and that encourages conversation. Not something in which you guys are just sitting there like an interview.

Interesting that your girlfriends kids live with their dad, usually only women with serious problems (drug/alcohol/mental health) don't have custody of their children.

I'm not judging, just putting things together.

I know, right? That's what I thought. Like we're only going to be together for a couple hours so is there even time for a concert?

Or else my little electric keyboard might be a better idea. There are no end of things a curious 10 year-old could play with on that. Many, many buttons and interesting sounds.

But I have been over-ruled.
