that is super frustrating Muddy.
IMO
just the process of getting prepared, the morning of an interview takes alot of energy out of a person, often times with very little return. not to mention all the goes into applying and getting the interview. Applicants are expected to be on top of EVERYTHING.

To have its mishandled and treated in such an unprofessional and head up the butt way, is egregious and really just shit IMO

by the way did you ask how cold the fridge was?

He said the fridge was 10 degrees. I did not pin him down if it was fahrenheit or celsius - although that is a significant difference. But the pay was well below what I already told him was my absolute minimum - so why probe the details?

I suppose the treatment was unprofessional. I think the woman is just insanely busy. Like when I spoke to her yesterday I had to do some online registration thing and call her back - and she sez, "Now you won't be able to reach me and the receptionist will tell you I'm in a meeting but just tell her I said to have me paged and give her your name." The vibe I get is she is so insanely busy a certain amount of games-playing is necessary. It's a temp agency. I'm sure she gets loads of lummoxes vying for her time.

I'm not really pissed about her. I'll follow up aggressively on the specific job I applied for and, who knows, other stuff may come up too.

Ah a temp agency. Tough gig. I talked to a guy recently who got hooked up with Harley Davisdon through them, pretty good.

To mislead you about the offered job is awful though, even if it is a result of her being busy. I'm sure you would not have taken the time to prepare, take the tests and go down there if you knew it was for freezer/assembly line work.

The agency prolly didn't mean to pull the ol' bait & switch. They do treat people like cattle though. All they care about is that you get your ass out there, anywhere, and come back with no complaints from the client.

Still a good way to get the ball rolling, employment-wise.

I'm pretty pissed off about the bait and switch here Matty. Fucked up. It should be prosecutable as a felony like it is in my line of work.

There is zero oversight with these guys. They set up shop under a different name. Stiff employees wages etc...

Don't forget, they become your de facto employer, not your actual place of work.

When I used to open mail I would constantly get these MOL grievance letters where they would have some sort of dispute with an employment agency. I guess some are better than others.

The big names aren't that bad, plus they might end up selling you off to a client who specifically wants to hire an employee.

Stick to Adecco and Manpower and the likes, none of that mom & pop bullshit like Bateman does.

It is a big, long-standing, reputable agency. I have known of them for decades. I'm pretty sure I either worked through them or hired through them way in the past.

They get lots of people lots of jobs. Everything is upfront. If you don't like the terms a placement, you don't take it. There is nothing nefarious they can do to you.

Worst case scenario, I wasted a couple hours and some gas.

I do need to be aggressive with the follow-up. I can see that.

I remember just out of college I went on a bunch of interviews, for a few they were set up through a headhunter. I went to what was suppose to be the final interview for one job, and I thought I nailed the thing, but I never heard anything. I ran into one of the guys who conducted the interview, and he asked why I never accepted the job, turns out they wanted to hire me, told the headhunter this, but the headhunter never told me this.

Most these guys are right. These agencies don't intentionally mistreat the help, they are just trying to churn 'em and burn 'em. They often post misleading job postings as mass cattle calls, only to sort out the details after completely overstocking their roster of help.

Matty is right tho, the big guys are interested in keeping their reputation up with both candidates and with employers looking for staffing. Best of luck Muddy.

only worked for 1 temp agency in my working career. I was about 18. they sent me to a job to clean out flooded trailers after the great flood of 96 here.
I left at lunch and never went back. shit was nasty and only paying minimum wage... no sir
